As discussed in the Keywords article, these are among the most important aspects of SEO.
Origin of inbound links(+3)
Links are more valuable if they come from similar sites as your own. It is also important to have inbound from sites with a higher Page Rank.
Number of backlinks(+3)
Generally, the more the better but the reputation, of the site linking to you, is more important.
Links from .edu and .gov sites(+3)
These links are golden because these domains are far mor reputable that .com, .info etc. But they are also harder to get.
Internal links(+2)
Links within your site do count, but not as much as inbound links.
Age of inbounds links(+2)
The older the links are, the better. Too many new links suggests buying them.
Links from directories(+2)
These are great if you use reputable sites such as Yahoo or DMOZ, but having thousands of links from PR0 sites is useless.
Outgoing links (+1)
The fewer the better. Search engines use algorithms that calculate inbound vs outbound links. Also, you site will see more important. Too many will have a negative affect on you rank.
Link farms(0)
Inbound links from link farms are useless, provided the links are not reciprocal.
Outbound links to suspicious sites(-1)
Links from your site to bad neighbors can hit your site hard.
Single pixel links (-3)
Such links that are invisible to human are clearly there to manipulate search engines.
